Midwestern baby boomer saturnalia and catharsis
In what he says “could be the ultimate document of Midwestern baby boomer saturnalia and catharsis”, Pitch Music Editor Jason Harper ponders Kansas City film-maker Ben Meade’s latest project.
We talking The Elders in Ireland as filmed by Meade and “their relatively elderly fans”:
if the fans rise to the occasion, there could be something rather compelling about seeing a bunch of men in tapered pants and oxford shirts and women in mom jeans ruined and rat arsed for days in a row as ol’ Ian beats the fuck out of the bodhrán
Ben Meade, you may recall, was the man filming the Elders back in September 2006 as a part of a film on independent music. This time Ben is filming all the gigs of The Elders tour in Ireland (Feb 28 - March 9, 2007).
And Meade is asking the 150 fans who are traveling from the US to help with the film by videoing their own point of view:
of anything, from what happens on the bus, late night, early morning, anything. Then we will integrate that footage into the entire project….in other words many people will be co-directing this film.
The Wayward Son, it should be said, has a soft spot for The Elders, due to their being the first gig he saw upon moving to Kansas City. And judging from his knowledge of the fans, he’s been to more than one gig, no?
And before you go, note the caption on the photograph cleverly using the word “reel”. Because Pitch music people know their polkas from their waltzes - or because “jig vertical” doesn’t make any sense.
