Natural for WJ McBride’s Irish Pub to Close?
The Kansas City Star weighs in on the closure of WJ McBride’s Irish Pub & Restaurant over at Village West by the Kansas Speedway in KCK.
The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kan., helped develop the property with public subsidies. Mike Taylor, spokesman for the Unified Government, said the restaurant took longer to open than the owners planned, but he didn’t know whether that played a role in the closing.
“It’s unfortunate that McBride’s had to close; they were one of the pioneer restaurants in the Village West area,” Taylor said. “I think, though, that it’s a natural part of the business, particularly the hospitality and restaurant business. … We fully expect, given the popularity of that area, that a new operation will be in that building.”
The article does suggest that the closure is only temporary, with its backers looking for additional capital and investors, but I think those were being looked for months prior to the closing.
You can read my thoughts on the WJ McBride’s closure, from back when it closed at midnight on the last day in February, together with several comments from people who frequented the pub.
