Kansas City Treat
With the 100 degree dog days of summer letting up on Friday I guess Kansas City was partied out by the time it came to last night at the Plaza. The moderate, but attractive, crowd which enthusiastically watched, clapped and tapped to Sunday night’s performance by Eddie Delahunt & Friends at O’Dowd’s, also received a very special treat.
Christopher Barksdale of the Kansas City Ballet did a guest spot where he sang Summertime. In a word, stupendous.
During the non-vocal middle where Brett Gibson played his accordion, I was watching bodhran player Gabriel Reyes lean over and slowly rim his pint of Boulevard Wheat with a slice of lemon, and thinking how lucky everybody in the pub was. Or maybe it was lime - the terms are interchangeable if you’re Irish.
Sometimes the best Irish music in town just happens to be the best music in town. A pity you were partied out.
