Irish Music at O’Dowd’s: It’s Wednesday
If you have been keeping up with the Irish music scene in Kansas City, you will know that it is two weeks since Brett Gibson last played accordion with Eddie Delahunt & Friends. No he hasn’t started playing the tin whistle; he’s gone away. Brett is home in New Zealand for a short spell, making music and making whoopee as far as I can tell from his last emails.
On that last occasion Eddie, Brett and Gabe performed an excellent version of Irish Ways and Irish Laws, full of vigour and the stuff that stops you talking. Last week, Eddie, Gabe, and an empty chair, sans accordion, played a much quieter version of Irish Ways and Irish Laws, this time acompanied by just the bodhrán, in fact by two of them - in stereo. Soulful and haunting.
Honestly, for the best Irish music in town, it almost doesn’t matter who his ‘Friends’ are, Eddie Delahunt playing live is what you want to be listening to. Normally I say it this way, or sometimes this way, and other times this way but any way you cut it you should go to O’Dowd’s - that Irish Pub on the Plaza - for 8pm TONIGHT.
