Irish Hares and Graces
Speaking of Dublin, Irish art magazine CIRCA (something I used to buy when I lived at home, because it was funny) today has a report on the latest addition to the streets of Dublin - Hares.
Six large sculptures featuring mostly hares, but there’s an elephant and a cougar there also, have been installed for the celebration of the reopening of Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane. Follow the sculptures and you’ll arrive at the Hugh Lane.
The artist Barry Flanagan is Welsh-born but an Irish citizen, and CIRCA says of his sculptures:
The anthropomorphic tendencies of the hares indicates, perhaps, Flanagan’s desire for greater human freedom.
See - it’s still funny. Go on, have a look - there’s photos.
