Unique Irish Exhibition
Possibly the most unusual piece of Irish memorabilia around is leaving Ireland on Wednesday to be part of an Irish exhibit in New York.
The exhibition is called Fighting Irishmen: A Celebration of the Celtic Warrior, and is to be held at the Irish Arts Center in New York. The piece of Irish memorabilia is bare knuckle legend Dan Donnelly’s mummified right arm. Makes you wonder what he’d give to be in the exhibition.
If you have a look at the official website of the Kildare Heritage & Genealogy Company, you can read about Dan Donnelly’s life, and how his arm ultimately finds itself in America on display instead of at his side in a grave.
Kildare, the county where Dan Donnelly’s fights and arm have been, is also where the 2006 Ryder Cup is being hosted, and is the home of the Curragh, headquarters of Flat Horseracing in Ireland, which hosts all five Classic Races including yesterday’s Irish Derby won by Irish jockey Kieren Fallon, or was it a Welsh poet called Dylan Thomas?
But that’s not the only reason the Irish jockey is in the news today.
