Bloomsday Books Looking For Partner
Bloomsday Books, the quality used and rare bookstore in the historic Crestwood shops is looking for a partner.
Tom & Nancy Shawver of Bloomsday Books would like a partner to join them and ultimately to possibly take over running the store that takes its name from Ireland’s most famous novel.
Bloomsday has long been an enthusiastic participant in, and often focus of, Irish events in the Kansas City area, from the days of the Brookside Irish Festival, through to regular hosting of Irish music, and of course the annual June 16 Irish celebration of the day James Joyce’s Ulysses is set, the day the store is named after.
Requirements are disposable income to invest, love for books and people, a willingness to help mind the store, and an interest in the opportunity to perhaps take over the whole thing one day.
Bloomsday currently has 15,000 books in their inventory, with a special emphasis on history, travel, adventure, writer biography, classics, science, regional works, biography, art, architecture and contemporary fiction. They also carry some new publications, and rare and unique volumes, too.
Typically the wide selection of titles is drawn from quality used and antiquarian books purchased from estates, academic collections and individual readers.
Bloomsday Books is located at 313 E. 55th St., near the intersection of 55th and Brookside Boulevard in the Crestwood Shops, the ones with Aixois on the corner.
And more than a social hub, it’s a lovely looking store too - from the bare red brick down the back by the wine bottles, to the impressive and arresting window displays put together by Nancy.
