Ike’s Irish Nephew
Kansas favourite son of Texas, Ike - President, not Turner - features again as the uncle of Billy Boyle, Irish cop in Boston, in the 2nd book in the historical detective series by James R. Benn.
The First Wave is set during the 2nd World War and Boyle’s family get him assigned to a distant relative, Ike as a then unknown General, in an attempt to keep him out of a war not his.
“Billy, who is drafted into service, comes from a family with strong loyalties to the city of Boston and the Irish struggle against the British,” said Benn, 57, of Lyme, Conn. “They don’t really view this war as their war. They lost family members in the First World War, and as rabid IRA supporters they come up with a scheme to keep Billy safe.
The 1st novel in this series was published last year and called simply Billy Boyle. And because everybody loved Eisenhower the author added a scene with him in it into the 2nd book which he had already finished by the time the world got around to reacting to the 1st book.
So if you’re a fan of this rather famous Kansas native and of Irish-themed stuff in American history, this book might be your cup of tea. You can read more about it in the Lawrence Journal-World
