How Do You Pronounce Samhain?
It’s the day before Halloween, or as I call it, Halloweeneen, and how to pronounce Samhain, the Irish for Hallowe’en, keeps popping up.
If the English word ‘gown’ had two syllables, samhain would rhyme with it.
Of course if you have a Dublin accent, like myself, then ‘gown’ does have two syllables, just like shoes, film, and nose. Listen to Bob Geldof on I don’t Like Mondays.
Down, down, down, shoot it on down. Rhymes with samhain. That’s sow as in pig not reap.
