Good Friday Agreement Anniversary in Kansas City
There is a celebration of the Good Friday Peace Agreement on Thursday, April 10, 2008 at the Irish Museum & Cultural Center in Kansas City’s Union Station.
The Good Friday Agreement, or as it’s also known, the Belfast Agreement, is celebrating its calendar 10th anniversary on April 10th - it’s Good Friday 10th anniversary having already been reached.
The celebration at Union Station takes place at 7pm - 8:30pm, and there is no charge for admission
Sometimes in Kansas City you still come across people who profess to want to fight the British for the sake of Irish freedom, seemingly oblivious to the 10 years that have passed since the agreement that sealed peace for Northern Ireland and redefined the relationship between the Republic and Britain. They could do much worse than attend this event.
This morning I read Martin McGuinness praising Ian Paisley, saying that he would be “fondly remembered by the people of Ireland” for his courageous leadership, and a couple of days ago I listened to David Trimble and Ian Paisley Jnr praise Bertie Ahern. These are wonderfully odd times we now live in.
At the IMCC there will be a video feed from Ireland, along with local thoughts, music, and refreshment by Guinness.
The celebration of the Belfast Agreement is a coopertive effort by several local Irish organizations. This event has been posted on the Kansas City Irish Events calendar
