Emerald Autumn: September Irish Music in Missouri
The Examiner in Eastern Jackson County reckons they have good news for those “who need an Irish fix before next year’s St. Patrick’s Day”
Irish music enthusiasts won’t have to wait seven more months to tap their feet to authentic Irish melodies, thanks to the Independence Host Lions Club.
“Help us help the Blind” is the theme of a benefit concert called Emerald Autumn that takes place in Independence, Missouri on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 7pm.
Playing Irish music in the 1,000-seat auditorium at William Chrisman High School is the legendary Irish folk musician from Cork, Jimmy Crowley.
If you have ever heard any Irish songs, even just by accident, then you will have songs either written by Jimmy Crowley or collected and popularized by him. Think of the biggest names in Irish folk that you can think of, and you are thinking of Jimmy Crowley fans, and many of them singers of his songs.
If you are interested in the Irish folk tradition then you should treat any chance you get to listen to Jimmy as a golden opportunity.
Local Kansas City area performers The Kelihans, Bob Reeder and Pipes and Drums of Ararat Shrine provide a very full evening of Irish entertainment.
I was speaking with Bob Reeder some time ago, and he was very excited about this event and the appearance of Jimmy Crowley. Bob, a reknowned collector of Irish songs himself, is also your MC for the event.
Emerald Autumn is co-produced by the Irish Music Association (Learn about).
