Celtic Fest Mississippi. Yes, Mississippi
Celtic Fest Mississippi is featured in the Clarion Ledger including the Irish band Kansas City has adopted, The Fuchsia Band:
They were in Kansas City doing a big festival last year about this time, which is after Katrina, and they heard about our little event struggling to decide whether to go on in the wake of devastation from the storm, Don Penzien, founder of CelticFest Mississippi said. They called us and said, ‘We’re touring in the States, we’re an Irish band, and we know how hard you got hit. We want to know if we can help.’ And they came down at their own expense …, and just stole the show
Featuring more than 40 performers on six stages, Celtic Fest is bigger than you think, and Mississippi is more Celtic than you think. The place is crawling with Manx people:
One thing a lot of people don’t realize is that Celtic culture - especially Irish and Scottish history - is at the roots of an awful lot of Mississippi history, Penzien said. The estimates are that about as many as one third of folks who live in Mississippi have roots in that part of the world. There are folks that say that part of what makes Southern culture different is that it tends to be more steeped in Celtic traditions whereas the rest of the country tends to be steeped in German traditions
along with The Fuchsia Band, fellow Kansas City Irish Fest 2006 performers, Something For The House are also playing.
CelticFest Mississippi takes place this weekend, September 8, 9, and 10, 2006 in Jackson, MS at the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Museum.

Played there once back in the 90’s as a solo balladeer opening for a three piece of Seamus Egan, Eileen Ivers and Mick Moloney. Yes just before, Riverdance and Solas.
Very fond memories of the festval and the amount of Irish interest, especially fond of those heavily armed with shotguns (there were quite a few of those). This site rocks in a traditional way.
