Beckham in Kansas City in September
The MLS (Major League Soccer) announced its full schedule for the 2007 season today and I don’t understand why it’s turned into the David Beckham schedule. But if you do, you can watch him play against the Wizards in Kansas City on September 27th, 2007. Assuming he’s fit. And picked.
Beyond free kicks, and that weird thing his leg does when he takes corners, I don’t why crowds would be going to watch a team game in which he happens to be one of twenty-two players on the pitch - not counting subs.
I’ve been in England and watched him play with Man U, and he’s not a flair player. He’s not Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Romario, Rivaldo or any Brazilian forward beginning with ‘R’. Nor is he Platini or Zidane. He’s English. Nor is he even Wayne Rooney. He’s a midfielder. So $275 Million is kind of a lot of money. As is whatever amount of dollars you have to spend to put your car in the parking-lot at Arrowhead.
More meaningful, but not by much, is that you can watch Beckham’s old international team-mates, England, play Spain on the box live at Delahunt’s Cafe & TODAY, Wednesday at 2pm Kansas City time. It’s a friendly - so nobody should care, except Ben Foster’s parents.
