Read about the movie Nelly Don: A Stitch in Time
The Nelly Don movie, which the book is a companion piece to, has been a great success, showing at the Screenland every weekend since its first showing a couple of months back.
O’Malley’s documentary film and companion book, Nelly Don: A Stitch in Time chronicles Nelly Don’s astounding success as a dressmaker fueled by her intuitive understanding of what appealed to contemporary women. Beyond the story of a successful businesswoman way ahead of her time, we learn about Nelly Don’s kidnapping and rescue by Kansas City gangsters, the affair she had with Sen. James A. Reed from which a child was born, the Union battles Nelly Don waged against the International Ladies Garment Workers Union and the kind and progressive leadership that endeared her to the thousands of Kansas City women who worked for her
