A Turkey Sandwich
So yesterday a couple of decorations fell down. You’re playing percentages; you put up so many that something’s got to give.
Anyway, it being a mere two days after Christmas Day, ten before the Epiphany, I of course put them back up.
Somebody said I was being mean when I suggested that most of America pays attention only to the first day of Christmas and ignores the other eleven. I wasn’t; I was being Christmassy and generous. Because most of America actually ignores all twelve.
The first day of Christmas is December 26th, a day when both of our nations have the habit of saying thank goodness Christmas is over. But they say it for different reasons.
In Ireland Christmas Day itself being out of the way means you can get on with the business of Christmas, of hosting and visiting, and eating and drinking without obligation or conscience, while everybody is off work.
And those few who do work don’t work properly, and join in of an evening thereby making themselves late for work in the morning where they don’t work properly.
In America Christmas Day being out of the way means Christmas itself is out of way, and you can get on with the business of work and whatever else you do with the rest of life when you’re not having a holiday or festive time.
Anyway let me go rustle up a turkey sandwich, on Day Four of eating Turkey (& Ham etc.), while I find something I wrote for you earlier. And I need to do some work on the events calendar, but hey, it’s Christmas.
I do hope you’re having a nice Christmas, or as you may call it, Thursday.
