2007 Midwest Fleadh Cheoil: Mary Williams
A word on the 2007 Midwest Regional Fleadh Cheoil which was a couple of weeks back in St Louis. The Fleadh has a habit of throwing up names you might want to watch out for over the years.
And this year a name St Louis has given us to remember for the future is that of 16 year old Mary Williams from Georgia who earned three gold and two silver.
Self taught, Mary took first place in the Uilleann Pipes, the Irish Tin Whistle Slow Airs, and English Singing, and second place in Irish Singing and Irish Flute Slow Airs.
And that qualifies her to compete in the world competition, Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann in Tullamore in Offaly, Ireland, during August 19-26, 2007.
Mary is a member of her family band Shanveen. You can visit their website HERE, and visit their MySpace HERE for just a couple of songs but that’s enough to hear hear just how good Mary’s singing is.
You can read more about Mary Williams in this proud Georgia paper
The Midwest Regional Fleadh Cheoil is hosted by the St Louis Irish Arts, Inc. which is a Comhaltas branch.
