KC School of Irish Music: Summer 2007
The Kansas City School of Irish Music has now finished the Winter/Spring set of classes.
Turlach Boylan tells me that he’s not planning to run any group classes over the summer but instead he is thinking of hosting a series of workshops.
Personally I regard the founding of this Traditional Irish Music School as one of the greatest things to have happened to the Irish community in Kansas City over the last several years, and hope it is embraced by the community it serves.
Every week I receive requests at Irish KC about where to get lessons in traditional Irish music in Kansas City. That a focal point - the Trad School, not this website - is evolving is something the city can be grateful to Turlach for, much as Christine O’Riada has facilitated great talent in Irish dancing in KC over the years.
Maybe some day Kansas City will get to host a Fleadh like it now hosts a Feis
In a community where talking about being Irish is all too frequent and easy (as demonstrated on Irish KC), both teaching and learning to play Irish music are about doing.
A busy man with Irish trad groups Glen Road and Kelly, County Derry’s Turlach is also busy planning a public student recital mid-to-late June. So do watch out for that, folks. UPDATE: The date is now set - Trad School Recital on July 15 at 2pm
Meanwhile private music lessons continue through the summer, if that is your cup of tea.
