World Cup Final at ‘Cafe &’
-& what?
-And the World Cup Final
A reminder that one of the Irish venues in Kansas City showing the World Cup Final on Sunday is Cafe &, Eddie Delahunt’s coffee shop on the site of the former Delsano’s at State Line and 45th. Kick-off is at 2:00pm
There is just the one telly in there, but if you have just the one pair of eyes that should be plenty. I’ve watched a couple of World Cup games at Cafe &, and it was nice not to have to fight off requests to turn the channel over to something else, anything else. Indeed I got to watch with a discerning crowd.
But hey, since you’ll be at the Cafe & the night before for the first of the live Irish music gigs, you can check it the venue for yourself.
If you’re not part of that discerning crowd then you may not know that we’re talking Italy against France, both former winners, Italy with three titles, and France just the single they won on home soil eight years back in a World Cup I attended myself..
It’s also the game that will decide the player of the tournament. Although it should have been Riquelme, it won’t be because Argentina let 70,000 screaming Germans intimidate them into boring safety and got knocked out. Instead it will be a straight fight between Italy’s Fabio Cannavaro and France’s legendary-no-matter-what-happens Zinedine Zidane.
Strictly speaking it’s a no-contest with Cannavaro having been consistently excellent, and Zidane being excellent in just one game (anonymous, ok, and non-appearing in the others), but when you bring the baggage of being one of the greatest footballers to have ever graced the game, into a match, becoming player of the tournament is attainable from a single visionary pass that makes a goal, let alone scoring itself.
