Woman and Frost: Celtic Differences
B-Sides in St Louis’ Riverfront Times has helped us all my clearing up any confusion people might have between Celtic Woman and Celtic Frost.
The motivation is down to the confusion, and a much more understandable one even if people are stupid, of confusing the relatively recent Celtic Woman show/group with the equally generic sounding compilation CD from the year 2000 called Celtic Woman, Vol. 2.
Celtic Frost are a Swiss metal who play at Pop’s, 1403 Mississippi Avenue, Sauget, Illinois at 7:00pm on Friday, April 13, 2007 and you can see them for in the region of $22 to $25. Phone 618-274-6720 for more info.
Oh, and for those who think Ireland, or even the mythical seven nations, have a monoply on using the label ‘Celtic’ and that it has no place in Swiss metal or at German Oktoberfests, do a little reading about where these people we call the Celts originated. It’s quite a rich history and education is always a more attractive trait than mindless flag waving.
Anyway, here in the RFT you have a handy side-by-side comparison of Celtic Frost and Celtic Woman under the following four categories:
• Vocal Approach
• Metal Credibility
• Speaking In Tongues
• Religious Subversion
For example:
Celtic Frost pioneered the use of operatic female vocalists in hard-rock songs, suggesting potential for an epic PBS pledge-week Celtic Frost/Celtic Woman collaboration.
And:
Like KISS, Celtic Woman’s members released solo albums emblazoned with their faces. Lamentably, the ladies preferred traditional cosmetics to cat whiskers and star-raccoon eyes.
Celtic Woman play Kansas City on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 two days after playing St Louis - at the Fox Theatre, (527 North Grand Boulevard - phone: 314-534-1111) for a whole bunch of money.
