Tin Cup Prophette
A couple of years back I was sitting on a couch. Beside me was a woman, one of the world’s great fiddlers.
We were just getting acquainted when on the other side of me, another woman sat down.
Another great fiddler.
This was more talent to be sitting between than I could bear, so feeling unworthy I got up, and then watched as the women played.

It was the after party of the 2004 Irish Festival. Eileen Ivers and Amanda kapousouz played my favorite festival gig of that and any year, high up in the Hyatt Hotel. 4 feet in front of them, watching them play I turned to a director and said, it’s like a wet dream.
At the previous year’s fundraiser, Amanda, the Tin Cup Prophette, travelled a long way to perform and did a fabulous set of two halves. One, traditional Irish, and the other half, my favourite, her own much more contemporary music. It was the highlight of a great night in Kansas City.
Amanda first came to our festivals here in KC with the McCabes for the Brookside Irish Festival. Working on that and subsequent websites I had my Korda Guevara moment when I doctored up a great photo of Amanda in a hat in the Brookside sun, and that photo was used for years, including posters.
A woman, a hat, big boots, and a fiddle - music’s almost a bonus.
Go to Amanda’s MySpace page and listen to Going Numb for a great example of what Amanda can do. Better yet still go see her play live the next time she comes to your city. Or somebody else’s city for that matter.
