The Weir by Conor McPherson
Over in Springfield, The Actors Theatre of Missouri ends its first full season with Conor McPherson’s The Weir, and it is reviewed today by Larry Collins in the News-Leader.
Larry calls the The Weir play an:
engaging chamber piece celebrating story-telling as a path to communion and self-awareness
McPherson won the Laurence Olivier award for this play a few years back, and notably was the writer of the much-loved (in Ireland) Irish film I Went Down.
I’d be wary of wandering accents in The Weir as I don’t see anything wrong with using actual natural American accents if the play is good enough, but since the play is set in a pub, you can compare the stage with your favourite Irish Pub in Kansas City at least.
If you’re tripping to Springfield, The Weir plays at the Vandivort through Saturday. Performances begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, then 7 and 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. For tickets ($15-$18.50), call 831-8001.
