The 2007 Midwest ACIS Conference takes place on 18-20 October 2007 at University of Missouri, Kansas City
The American Conference of Irish Studies invites you to attend the 31st annual Midwest ACIS meeting centered on the theme Voices and Visions: Ireland Across Disciplines.
This conference hopes to cross disciplinary lines to explore interactions among art, history, music, literature, cinema, and culture in Ireland from earliest times to the present.
The conference will begin with a plenary lecture at the Nelson-Atkins Museum at 6pm on Thursday, October 18, 2007 and conclude on Saturday evening, October 20, 2007 with a performance by The Elders
Plenary Speakers:
Sighle Bhreathnach-Lynch, Curator of Irish Art, National Gallery of Art and author of Ireland’s Art / Ireland’s History: Representing Ireland (1845-Present) (2007), numerous articles on art and its role in Irish national identity.
Pat Collins, director of over thirteen documentaries including the award winning John McGahern: A Private World (2005), Frank O’Connor: A Lonely Voice (2004), Tory Island (2003), Talking to the Dead (2000), and most recently a documentary on the Irish language poet Nuala Ni Dhomhnaill.
Harry White, Professor of Music at University College Dublin and author of The Keeper’s Recital (1998), The Progress of Music in Ireland (2005) and Music and the Irish Literary Imagination (forthcoming).
