St Patrick - The Facts: #2
Before Christianity, Black Puddings in Ireland were phallic.
One day Saint Patrick out walking in Connacht met a tall member of the famous Black Pudding Irish who happened to be holding a traditional phallic pudding.
Lend me your pudding, said Patrick.
Ireland’s patron saint then used his staff to bend the stranger’s pudding, asking if any more puddings were concealed on his person.
The stranger produced two more puddings, both of which were duly bent by Saint Patrick before he placed them on a limestone rock with the first pudding, forming a distinct shamrock shape.
And to this day black puddings in Ireland are curved.
In England, which only took to Christianity on its own terms, Black Puddings are still made in the original phallic form.
