St Paddy’s Wagon Free Cab Rides in Kansas City
St. Paddy’s Wagon will provide free cab rides from 3pm to midnight TODAY, March 17, 2008.
St. Joseph Medical Center and Yellow Cab started the service 20 years ago to keep drunk drivers off the road on St. Patrick’s Day. The service has given about 6,600 rides to people.
I was reading the other day that National Traffic Safety Administration data shows alcohol contributed to 45.5% of all St. Patrick’s Day traffic fatalities in 2004. In other words drivers are 23% more likely to be injured or killed by a driver who is impaired by alcohol on St. Patrick’s Day.
The service will be available to patrons at restaurants and bars within a 5-mile radius of Westport. And that includes the River Market, downtown Kansas City, Historic Jazz District, 39th Street Corridor, Country Club Plaza, Brookside and Waldo areas.
Rides of up to $25 will be free.
