Some Parade Winners
Brookside St Patrick’s Warm-Up Parade 2008 coordinator Jennifer Leon said the float themed as a front porch scene that was made by neighbors in the 6400 block of Morningside Drive won the $100 prize as their parade’s best overall entry.
North of the river, The Northland Animal Welfare Society won “best of parade” float and the top prize of $7,000 at the Snake Saturday ‘08 parade.
The Kansas City Star has more on those who braved the early morning snow and afternoon temperatures in the 30s to attend these parades on Saturday, including the Lee’s Summit Emerald Isle parade.
Cold hardly seemed to matter at Lee’s Summit’s Emerald Isle St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
The number of entries increased to 55 for the event’s third year, up a few over last year and well beyond the 25 in its first.
The crowd lining several blocks in the historic downtown was heavier than the year before, which was a sunny day in the 60s, said Steve Tominia, president of the Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street organization.
Mayor Karen Messerli, wearing a green cape, rode a horse in the parade.
A pub crawl was held after the parade starting in early evening.
