Scottish KC
Yesterday, January 25th, was the anniversary of Robbie Burns’ birthday, so it’s the time of year when all over the world, Scottish people have Burns’ Suppers celebrating the work of the Scottish poet.
Scotland is probably the country more than any other which has been afflicted with Irish immigrants so there are overlaps in the cultures of both countries. That said there are also differences. Some of the them are small - but absolute nonetheless. For example, whisky comes not from Ireland but from Scotland; whiskey comes from Ireland. So unless you’re talking scotch, put an ‘e’ in there.
This weekend in the Kansas City region you can celebrate Robbie Burns and many things Scottish at the Lawrence Scottish Festival. There will be a session there also - from 5:30-6:15 as people are arriving, and then from 6:30-6:45. Players are also invited to play during the 10 minute intermission at around 8:15.
During that 6:15-6:30 gap members of Pipers of the Plains will be making all sorts of noise with their Highland bagpipes. And then at 7pm is the Concert featuring Robert Burns songs and Celtic music by Forest Green (with guests Kelly Dougherty and Willy Peterson) and the folk-rock band Uncle Dirtytoes.
