One Book, Two Cities
I meant to tell you a couple of weeks ago, that the 2009 Dublin: One City, One Book is Dracula by Dublin author Bram Stoker.
Dracula was also chosen as one of the first books in the Irish Book Club in Kansas City as run by the Irish Museum & Cultural Center (IMCC).
In its 4th year now the Dublin: One City, One Book project is designed to encourage everyone in the city to read the same book during the month of April each year. Myself I like to read the book in March so I know what everyone is thinking the following month.
The books featured in the previous years of the Dublin: One City, One Book project were Gulliver’s Travels by the former Dean of St Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin, Jonathan Swift; A Long Long Way by Sebastian Barry, an author I regularly recommend to those who ask me to recommend an Irish author; and At Swim Two Birds by Flann O’Brien, the godfather of Irish blogging long before his time.
