McFadden’s: New Irish Pub for Downtown Kansas City, MO
Kansas City, Missouri is getting a new Irish pub.
And downtown.
One of 6 new tenants signed for Kansas City’s Power & Light District the new Irish pub will be hoping that the P&L district doesn’t become swamped with competing restaurants the way things went over at the Kansas Speedway for the former WJ McBride’s Irish Pub and Restaurant.
And that people actually go to the district. Or else in a couple of years there won’t be anybody with any pub crawl memories
This new pub is to be called McFadden’s Sports Saloon as it is one of the McFadden’s chain of Irish pubs that started in New York back in 1977 and you can now also find them in Boston, DC, Grand Rapids, Cincinnati, Portland, Nashville, Columbus, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and more.
UPDATE Nov ‘07: McFadden’s Opens
UPDATE Dec ‘07: Early Reactions
You can check out all the locations HERE.
The Kansas City Star reports that McFadden’s will be a 6,900-square-foot establishment and will have “shuffleboard, darts, a resident deejay, live entertainment, high-definition plasma TVs and large projection screens” .
Of course I’ve no idea how Irish it aims to be. The New York pub on 42nd Street describes its ambience as “Cozy Irish Pub Atmosphere with vibrant nightlife” which will be a real bummer for those of you who prefer a vibrant Irish pub atmosphere with a cosy nightlife.
Meanwhile the cuisine in the New York McFadden’s is described as “American” rather than “Irish”. So if KC follows suit there’ll be no Wicklow Wontons, Binevenagh Biryani, or Poulaphuca Pad Thai for you then.
