Liam and the Flowers on MySpace
Although in Ireland Bebo is way bigger than MySpace, until Bebo finishes its implementation of music playing ability, MySpace will remain the social networking site that Irish music performers flock to.
I read recently in a British paper that bands are not taken seriously by record companies if they are not on MySpace, however given that the same article was perpetuating some myths surrounding MySpace and music, specifically with regard to the Arctic Monkeys and Sandi Thom’s I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker (With Flowers in My Hair), well, I think that’s generalized sensationalized nonsense. What if you’ve been releasing your music solely through YouTube? -I’m sorry sir, you’re not with it, all the main music acts of today are on MySpace.
Luckily both the Hothouse Flowers and Liam Ó Maonlaí are now among the newer additions to MySpace, both being created recently, and are therefore to be taken seriously.
The Hothouse Flowers tracks you can enjoy are Your Love Goes On, Magic Bracelets, Don’t Go, and This Is It Your Soul.
And by Liam Ó Maonlaí - which I’ll confess to much preferring over the Flowers stuff - the four tracks available for your pleasure are: Sadbh Ni Buruinnealadh, Ar Nathair, An Buachall Ban, and Ag Criost An Siol, all from his excellent album Rian. If only Sinead O Connor’s similar project Sean Nos Nua hadn’t been so overproduced, it might have flown as high as Ó Maonlaí’s Rian.
