Last Day Ever for Bloomsday Books
After 13 years in 4 locations, Bloomsday Books, the Kansas City bookstore named after a celebrated day of Irish literature, is about to close its doors.
Saturday, February 23rd, 2008 is the last day ever for the bookstore to be open, and Bloomsday would like to see as many books as possible go to its friends and customers.
While all the bookshelves that were for sale are now spoken for, there are still thousands of books to sell at reduced prices.
At 6:30pm the shop closes for good. So get in early to take adavantage of the final sale. Price reductions have been increasing exponentially as the final day has approached.
A lot of the stock was in storage and has not previously been shown at the store. These quality books include biographies, Western and local history, politics, tons of business/economics, World War II and Vietnam, signed first editions, travel/adventure, film/theater, art and interior design, photography, women’s studies, black studies, religion and Jewish studies, American history and even a case of erotica.
Oh yeah, and there’s rather a sizeable section of Irish books, fiction and non-fiction.
Next week whatever inventory remains is being moved to storage, the bookshelves are being dismantled for buyer pick-up, and the decks are being swabbed.
A regular venue for Irish events, from music to movies, and festivals to the annual celebration of the day that its named after, Bloomsday Books is a big loss to the Irish community in KC but an immeasureable one for the friends of the greatest place to be among friends.
