Last Chance for Unique Irish Event
Last night I was talking with one of the committee members for the Jennifer Ireland Foundation, and he told me that there are still some tickets available for tonight’s Irish extravaganza; just go to the Tivoli and pay at the door.
There won’t be too many events like this in Kansas City ever again. Not very many films are made in Ireland that end up on general release in the midwest. The Wind That Shakes The Barley was made with British money and by a great British director, but it was made in Ireland and of Ireland.
Kansas City has an actor from the film present tonight. And being also a musician, KC gets to hear him in the movie, and in the flesh. There is music before and after. People will be wearing whatever creative black tie means to them. For me it means I’ll have a root around for a dark t-shirt.
I have seen this film and it is well worth viewing. Or forget my opinion and note that it won the main prize at last year’s Cannes Film Festival. Viewing it with Kansas City’s Irish community all dressed up, sandwiched between musical performances and food and drink, whilst being feted by a star of the movie, a movie about Ireland and the difficult political birth of her independence of sorts, only two days after the historic beginning of an agreed devolved self-government in Northen Ireland, is a truly unique opportunity.
And most important of all it is a benefit for the Jennifer Ireland Foundation. The foundation honors Jennifer, who died earlier this year of colon cancer, by providing financial grants to cancer patients and their families.
If you still need to, check out everything you might ever want to know about the event and the movie
Or turn up at the Tivoli at 6:30 pm tonight, wearing whatever on earth you feel comfortable wearing. It’s a party.
I hope you’re washing that t-shirt that you found at the bottom of your closet or in the dog’s bed. see you there.
Off topic. Many thanks for support during my move to the new site.
