Lafferty’s Wake: Just Off Broadway Theatre becomes Irish Pub
Lafferty’s Wake is the name of the 2007 annual fundraiser for the Just Off Broadway Theatre in Kansas City, Missouri.
Running from June 1 - June 9, 2007, the Just Off Broadway Theatre becomes an Irish pub – called Rory’s.
And Charlie Lafferty is being waked there, in Rory’s the Irish pub.
What happens next is audience participation in the jokes, jigs (but no reels), stories, music and songs to sing along to.
You have Charlie’s widow, his “sweet daughter and bumbling son-in-law”, the parish priest and the savvy innkeeper - presumably from Cavan, and together they and you the audience all celebrate the life and times of Charlie Lafferty, a man known for gambling and rambling.
And by rambling I doubt we’re talking long walks on country rights of way.
Old favorites such as When Irish Eyes are Smiling are promised.
