Kelly’s Westport Inn is an institution in Kansas City. And it’s a Kansas City institution on St Patrick’s Day.
It’s one of the coolest looking pubs, run by two of the nicest Irish-Americans in town, and it’s in that most historic of places, Westport Road and Pennsylvania.
It even has its own page on wikipedia.
Kelly’s Wesport Inn on St Patrick’s Day probably embodies all that is best and worst about Kansas City on the big green day. Like Christmas Eve and birthdays it’s rich in tradition and fun, people who’ve known people for years, often only getting together once or twice a year now, perhaps remembering somebody loved who used to also meet up, Kelly’s is a central definitive place for such traditions. And on the other hand it’s also a zoo. But then again, on March 17, everywhere’s a zoo today!
