Kansas Irish Pub Owner Seeks Change in Leavenworth County Liquor Laws
Pat Paden, owner of Fatheads Irish Pub in Leavenworth, Kansas is seeking a change to the liquor license laws that currently apply to Leavenworth County.
Kansas has 2 types of liquor licenses. A class “B” license for a private club and a drinking establishment license, which requires a 30% gross from food sales.
Paden wants to remove the 30% rule so that he can change from a private club to a regular drinking establishment license, without having to serve food.
As a private club, Paden is required to have membership cards and keep track of information about his customers. The first time a customer visits Paden’s business, the customer will complete a membership application and pay a $10 membership fee before waiting 10 days to become an official member.
“I don’t want to keep track of customers,” Paden said. “We have military in town just for the weekend. By law, I can’t serve them.”
