Kansas Classical Students Turning to Irish Traditional Music
Over in Western Kansas some classical music students are leaving classical music behind for a bit in preference of the exploration of Irish tunes and ballads, according to the Hays Daily News
It’s part of a summer program in Hays for students aged 8 to 14:
“This kind of music is a great thing to move away from classical. Classical is all to deal with rules, and people get very strict about it,” said instructor and Fort Hays State University senior Shawn Demuth. “If they get to do this, it’s just fun. It brings back the fun in music.”
Students in what is called the Celtic Tour will participate in a workshop in late July 2008 with Marianne Payette Carter who you know as a member of the Celtic-Irish band, the Lawrence, Kansas based Rowan.
Rowan are playing in Hays on Aug 22, 2008 and students will perform with the band.
Reportedly, among the names being considered by the group is Lucky Charms. If chosen would the Lucky Charms closer to Kansas City be knwn as the Lansing Lucky Charms? Either way you could expect a bunch of idiots to wade in with claims of perpetrating Irish stereotypes.
