Kansas City Irish Pub The Ultimate Dive Bar
In fairness the author preferred the Kansas City Irish Pub to the Claddagh Irish Pub in Pittsburgh, PA, but still, I wonder where he was talking about?
It’s not like the Irish pub in Kansas City, more like the one in Cleveland, trendy, lots of shiny wood, brass. I’d rather be in the K.C. bar, which was a dive, maybe the ultimate dive bar. You could picture Irish revolutionaries, fighters, drinking in that bar.
Don’t hesitate to proffer suggestions, but remember Kansas City has been losing quite a few Irish pubs of late, and Mike Palecek came through KC in late March of this year on his book tour for The American Dream - so it’s not either WJ McBride’s nor is it Kennedy’s.

Sounds like it could be The Daily Limit to me.
Another possibility is The Blarney Stone.
Maybe even Walsh’s Corner Cocktails.
All fit comfortably into the “dive bar” catagory, although The Daily Limit is most likely to have a Hibernian or two gracing a barstool on a regular basis.
While I wouldn’t call it a “dive,” I suspect the author was recalling the ill-fated Kennedy’s off 75th and Wornall.
Actually lads, I have since finally located the episode of his travels he wrote immediately after his Kansas City stop, and he does mention a KC pub by name. And I know what he means.
Maybe I’ll tell you tomorrow. Oh the suspense.
Still waitin’ for the name of that dive, Eolai.
And I pray to God it ain’t Kelly’s.
Here is the entry just after he went through Kansas City and Lawrence.
It’s possible Mike went to more than one pub in KC, but the only pub named is Harlings.
