It’s not Mother’s Day in Ireland
Twice a year I tell you this, America. Mother’s Day in Ireland is celebrated on a different day than it is in America.
Here in Ireland we had Mother’s Day a couple of months ago. That’s quite early but it’s because it’s tied into lent and occurs 3 weeks before Easter which itself was freakily early this year - something to do with the planets and the stars. And why not?
Lest you think I’m scoffing - I’m not. For I was born on a Mother’s Day. That should also tell you - because Mother’s Day is always a Sunday - that I am full of grace. Or at least I was when I was a child.
Anyway, should you think today especially worthy of Mothers over and above any other day, then you might just think of making a phone call to an Irish mother - if your mother is Irish that is; I’m not suggesting you randomly start calling mothers.
Every year for the last 8 in the build up to Mother’s Day I have made sure my son was aware of the day, and was organised in terms of making a card and making or getting a present - often providing him with materials. Alas I’ve been unable to this year, just as it appears anyone was unable to help him with his father’s birthday a few weeks ago.
Happy Mother’s Day.

Tell your mum we in America say Happy Mother’s Day to her.
I will Spyder, thank you. Though of course now I’ll get into trouble.
Big was born on a Mother’s day-the American one. It’s a special thing to have your first child on Mother’s day.
