Irish Tenor John Mc Dermott in Kansas City
Update: As Pete Maher notes below this event is now CANCELED
This is a big one Kansas City. John McDermott, the Scottish-born Irish tenor, is performing a concert at the KC Music Hall on Saturday October 27, 2007 at 8:00 pm.
Remembrance is a celebration of Celtic and patriot music and it’s also a salute to vets.
McDermott’s story is a great story of hard work and success following the discovery of his talent in the 1990s. One of the original Irish Tenors with Finbar Wright and Anthony Kearns, John McDermott’s repertoire ranges through all the Celtic classics and more modern ballads about loss and remembrance such as And The Band Played Waltzing Mathilda. I’ve previously extolled the quality of Fairytale of New York, as sung by McDermott with Kearns and Wright as the Irish Tenors.
Here is a video of John McDermott singing The Voyage:
Tickets are $60, $50 and $45 and can be purchased at Municipal Auditorium Box Office, Ticketmaster or by phoning 816-931-3330
The Kansas City Music Hall is located at 301 West 13th Street in downtown Kansas City, Missouri.
As you might expect there are more details about John on his official website. When you go there do check out the interview with John. Here’s a sample:
When we first immigrated to Canada, the very first weekend we moved in, my father went and knocked on all of the neighborsÌ doors and he invited everybody to come over. Needless to say, nobody came. But, he did the same thing the following week and eventually, one or two people came. And soon, he didn’t have to invite anybody any more. Because the word soon spread that if you got an invitation to McDermott’s place, you just had to go. My father would invite friends and the neighbor’s families over to discuss the events of the day, and eventually, we always got around to singing. We made our own entertainment. We did not have a television set. We made do.
You don’t get too many chances like this Kansas City. I’ll post it on the KC Irish Events calendar for you to remember.
Sorry to have to report this, Eolai, but I’ve just received word from the promoter of the McDermott concert that they cancelled the show just this afternoon due to low ticket sales.
Thanks Pete. Ticketmaster were the quickest that I noticed in posting the cancelation.
