Irish Party at Plaza Library
A quick reminder that today, Satuday June 13, 2009, sees the annual Irish party that is the Bloomsday celebration at the Plaza Library, 4801 Main St.
If I wasn’t in Ireland right now, in Dublin where Ulysses is set, then the Kansas City Bloomsday party is exactly where I’d be.
For the 14th year the event is sponsored by Boulevard Brewing, which is providing the Irish Stout for the festivities. Why are you still reading - shouldn’t you be gone now?
It starts at 5:30pm with Eddie Delahunt playing Irish traditional music, followed at 7pm with the performance of Ulysses by the Brookside Players, directed by Sylvia Stoner.
If you think a play doesn’t sound like a party, well trust me - it is - and it’s very funny, in that laugh out loud way. Your hosts are Tom & Nancy Shawver of the online bookstore, and former best brick and mortar bookstore in the Midwest, Bloomsday Books.
This is the 1st year that the performance is on a real stage — the beautiful Truman Auditorium Theater at the Plaza Library.
Some of the impressive list of names that you can see there this year include: Larry Greer, Richard Buswell, Kip Niven, Jennifer Mays, Erin McGrane, Paul Orwick, Michelle Cotton, Crosby Kemper, Steve Paul, Laurie Arbore, Doug Symes, Sean Hall, Kathy Hale, Amelia Mohr, Mary McNulty, Meaghan Deiter, Linda Symes, Erika Manuel and Sylvia Stoner.
Bring your friends. Make new ones!
