Irish Music at Kansas Festival Anniversary
On Saturday, 24 May, 2008, at 7pm in the Jackpot Music Hall, Lawrence, Kansas there is a festival of music celebrating the 25th anniversary of the 1st Climax, Kansas, Music Festival.
Among the 14+ bands performing at the festival reunion that regular readers of Irish KC will be familiar with are Kelly who play at 11:30pm. Kelly member, Dave Agee, is a Climax Music Festival alum.
Also in the mix are Forest Green who many regulars will know from the Lawrence Scottish Festival every year.
The Climax Music Festival was held in 1983, 1984 and a 3rd time in 1986. Climax, Kansas - lest you haven’t heard of it - is down in Greenwood County and has a population of 64.
The official website has a detailed history of those festivals in the 1980s, and also a fantastic collection of recordings of the performances on MP3s.
I have no idea how you fit 14+ bands into a schedule that starts at 7pm - even with a pre-party at 5:30pm - but however it’s done, it sounds like a heck of a bargain.
Cost is advertised as $5 for those 21 and over, and $7 for those under 18. This does raise the question of what the cost might be for those aged between 18 and 21, but regardless of that it strikes me as a great policy of charging more for young people.
