Irish Designer McCartan for KC, MO Hotel
Today’s Kansas City Star has a report on Gemstone Resorts International, which operates the Hotel ZaZa in Dallas and the Mosaic Hotel in Beverly Hills, joining the West Edge project for the new Moshe Safdie designed 131-room hotel going up near the Plaza.
Ray Braswell, the project manager for the West Edge, said the yet-to-be-named hotel planned for Kansas City won’t be as edgy as its Texas cousin, but said it should set a new standard for local accommodations.
Sounds kind of patronising, but anyway, Ireland’s Colum McCartan is doing the interiors. MCartan has been in the US for twenty years now, and made his name with Sir Terence Conran’s Design Partnership before breaking away and then ultimately forming his own practice based in San Francisco.
Here’s a look at the model of the new Kansas City West Edge hotel, from the ‘In Progress’ section of the McCartan website, where you can see the planned rooftop pool.
The West Edge is scheduled to open in early 2008. As well as the hotel, it includes a ton of office space, and a small amount of retail space.
