Irish-American Saves/Hi-Jacks KC, Kansas Parade
I’ve been following the story of Fred Denney and the Polski Day Parade in KCK, and it all seems like a script by Christopher Guest.
Denney’s Bar is where the Polski Day Parade is scheduled to end this year. It’s in Strawberry Hill, the historically Croatian neighbourhood. But first the parade goes through the historically Polish neighbourhood which now happens to be an Hispanic neighbourhood.
And the Polski Day Committee, who didn’t renew the permit for the parade, which is why Frank, the Irish-Slovakian-Polish-American, was able to, want the parade to end in its traditional spot, the now Hispanic Polish Hill, on Polski Day, the first Saturday in May - Cinco de Mayo. Yes it’s a day when everybody is Polish and everybody is Mexican.
Mike Hendricks has more in the Kansas City Star. This could never happen in the Irish community though, could it?
