Ireland and Kansas City, Same Day and Same Place
Yes, you can see both Ireland and Kansas City not only on the same day, but also in the same place.
Huh?
Football.
Uh?
Well soccer then.
Oh.
On Saturday, May 26, 2007 at 6:30pm the New England Revolution are playing the Kansas City Wizards at the quaintly-named Gillette Stadium up in the Boston area.
And also in the stadium that isn’t called the Foxboro Stadium, as an opener to that New England-Kansas City MLS game, at 4:00pm Ireland are playing Bolivia in a friendly international that will doubtless be dressed up as some sort of official competition.
It’s very odd to have a double bill in the first place, let alone a double-bill that mixes not just club and international fixtures, but also domestic clubs with foreign countries.
I’m not quite sure if the Revolution is trying to entice out the presumably huge Irish support in the area and hope they stay on for the Kansas City fixture, or if the Wizards themselves are such big draws that they need their fans to bolster an expected poor turnout for Ireland against Bolivia.
Anyway, if you have connections to Kansas City and Ireland, and you find yourself in New England later this month, well you know where to go. Of course if you have family in Boston of Bolivian descent, you’ll want to go to.
I know you can work out all the other permutations, but they just result in inner conflict and mixed loyalties.
