Web Access in Ireland Compared to U.S.
Speaking of Internet habits in Ireland as compared to the US, Damien Mulley writes that access to the Web has remained static in Ireland as there is a concentration on upgrading users from Narrowband to Broadband, while in the US it continues to grow.
The Nielsen Netratings Report (pdf) is out and shows that 72% of web users in the US use broadband (up from 57% last year), while in Ireland 32% of web users have broadband. In the workplace in the US the figure for saturation of broadband is as high as 90% and it is accepted that this has not yet maximized. Back in Ireland meanwhile there are significant pockets of the country not likely to get broadband access in the near future and I don’t understand why the government has let the situation get this bad.
If you’re reading this in the US this might matter to you if you’re planning a vacation in Ireland and have high hopes of blogging from there (like this Kansas City blogger), or god love you, of actually doing some work online.
