The Power of Snow
Yesterday was truly extraordinary.
It was a day that more people, and all of them strangers, talked to me more than on any other day since moving to KC almost 8 years ago.
Most were neighbours, but neighbours who before yesterday had never even exchanged so much as a silent wave.
The house I live in now is the house I have lived in longest after the house in Dublin I grew up in, but beyond the drug dealers, I couldn’t tell you who the neighbours are.
And it’s not a fair comparsion so I’ll make it. In the faceless suburb of Dublin I grew up in, I would have known every single neighbour for several roads around. Even the people who didn’t talk talked to you.
But yesterday in Kansas City, neighbours who have ignored nods and waves for years, walked up to me and talked. Bringing their beers, their religions, their visitors, and their drugs. And refreshingly it was nothing to do with being Irish.
From 2pm to 10pm cars stopped at my house, people shouted, cheered, gave the thumbs up signal, waved and nodded. All races were represented. The blessings of God were bestowed upon me. People walking on the nearby trail roared from fifty yards away.
Because I was building an igloo.
Not just me, there was two of us for most of the day, and then I soldiered alone in darkness.
And still the cars kept coming.
The night-time photo shows it still in progress.
And the daytime photo (Photo and Link Fixed) is from this morning. With it more or less still standing.

Gallarus Oratory Maybe ?
Indeed, if not a Beehive Hut - which reminds me that I need to finish that painting I started of the Gallarus Oratory.
Wow, I’m more than a little impressed.
It’s so great to get a chance to use a phrase that is often
over-used but still perfect for moments like this…
Fair Play to you, Eolai!
You are an amazing man!
Technical question: What did you use to make the
bricks? A roasting pan? Curious minds want to know!
A sterilite plastic basket, with holes on the sides - not the easiest tool to work with!
