The Irish in Missouri
There’s a Kansas City Irish website that I’ve repeatedly failed to give the full attention it deserves.
It hasn’t been intentionally so, it’s just that it’s so good and so prolific, that I fail to keep up with it.
Every time I go to post on it, it seems to have moved on.
Here then is something from it a bit more timeless. It’s a video of illustrations of the history of the Irish in Kansas City, St. Louis, the Irish Wilderness and Missouri, including newspapers, dancers, businesses and parades.
In the background you hear Peter Adams singing Irish Ma O’ Mine, an old Irish song published in Missouri. There’s a picture of Adams on stage in there, along with John Morris. And the video is richly illustrated from the first book on the “Missouri Irish” ever written, by Mike O’Laughlin:
Yes, the site I speak of is Mike O’Laughlin’s Irish Roots Cafe, an amazing collection of historical and genealogy resources of the Irish in Kansas City, in Missouri, and in America. And thanks to his blog and especially his podcast, the resources continue to grow. If you want to explore your Irish heritage - start at the Irish Roots Cafe.
