The Elders in the Kansas City Star
In advance of The Elders‘ CD release party for Racing the Tide on Saturday at Borders, The Kansas City Star has a lengthy article by Timothy Finn, on Kansas City’s Irish fronted rock group and where they are today.
Well, they’ve just done another Irish festival, this time up in Almonte in Ontario:
We’re something of a sensation there, I guess Steve Phillips, the band’s guitarist, said Monday, hours after the Elders returned from Almonte, Ontario, where the band headlined the Celtic Fest.
We played there last year for the first time, and it went so well they invited us back. It was a great gig. A lot of people who saw us last year came back to see us again. I’d say a couple thousand people showed up
That’s a huge turnout for a town of fewer than 5,000 people, even for a band with a reputation to follow.
It looked like the boys might have been playing outdoors at the CD release party, but the gig at Borders will take place indoors - which is no harm when the heat index says 109 degrees:
We couldn’t get the permits needed to do it outside, said lead singer Ian Byrne, so we’ll do it inside. It’ll be fine. The more people that show up, the better. Why not?
Anyway there’s loads in the article - discussion of the new CD Racing the Tide, the addition of Joe Miquelon, Wicklow man Ian Byrne’s crazy life, upcoming concerts, and photos even. See the full article
