San Marino v Ireland: No results within 100 mile radius
You might live in the centre of America, but it’s not the centre of the world.
TODAY at 1:45pm Kansas City time, Ireland play San Marino in their next Euro 2008 qualifying game which all but ended when Ireland lost 5-2 to Cyprus. We’re talking soccer here not rugby this time.
It’s not on Setanta Broadband, it’s not on Setanta Sports - which some pubs in the region have by default - but it is on Setanta Premium.
And where can you watch Setanta Premium? Setanta reports there are no venues with Setanta Premium within 100 miles of KC. Such is the demand of 250,000 people of Irish heritage.
This is a competitive international match - in theory as San Marino have lost all of their previous 37 qualifying matches. As poor as Ireland are at the moment, this is still more important than a friendly international involving anybody, or a club fixture list involving an international player who was dropped by his country for good last year.
So what do you do? Bite your nails and hope that the third smallest nation in Europe (after Monaco and the Vatican City), The Most Serene Republic of San Marino, is not going to cause Ireland any more problems than they deserve.
Or you can Listen Live on RTÉ Radio 1 - if you can get on.
Oh, and (ahem), there may be something you could try on the ould internet which would allow you to watch it. So I hear.
Update - HALF-TIME: 0-0. Oh my.
Update - 49 mins: 0-1. Ireland, finally.
Update - 86 mins: 1-1. Good Lord!
Update - 94 mins: Five seconds from the final whistle Ireland scramble a winner. I dare you to cheer that result.

The RTE Radio 1 live feed collapsed, at least on my computer, for the last crucial 4 minutes. But the post match panel, all as sick as parrots of course, coming in fine now.
Sorry to hear of your difficulty in seeing the ‘the Big Match’. I saw it all and will now spend the next while trying to regain my sense of reality. Dreadful described the match. You were saved brain damage !
As regards Setanta Sports, surely they would benefit from screening our Matches to your audience. As it is they are gaining negative reports. Hopefully they read your Blog and get their act together.
Tonight though… a narrow excape is what it is being called but in reality, how can we accept such a result from a team ranked 195 in the rankings. Avoided a disaster so maybe that was the wake up call needed for our footballing authorities. Maybe they will take note this time but I fear not.
Amazing stuff. I kind of feel sorry for the Sammarinese, to have gone so close.
I’m not a reactionary sort but I felt Cyprus clearly illustrated Stuanton’s incompetence at this level, and could the FAI need any more proof than this to admit they made a huge mistake in appointing him.
A new manager now would have a chance to try things out before the World Cup campaign.
Of course in fairness the FAI executives responsible for Stan’s appointment should be going also.
