Power & Light District Vs Westport
Fox carries a detailed analytical study comparing St Patrick’s Day in the traditional drinkers hot-spot of Westport with that of the new pretender, the Power & Light District.
Don’t be silly.
“We had tens of thousands of people here. We exceeded expectations,” said Jon Stephens, Director of Marketing, Power and Light District.
For that to mean anything you need to know what those expectations were, and if they were realistic to begin with.
St. Patty’s Day in Westport was dampened a bit by the bad weather, but as always, there was a line in front of Kelly’s, and plenty of people having fun.
But some businesses were concerned, they weren’t as busy as they’d like.
For some reason Westport had a day to celebrate not a bearded manly saint, but a woman. Or perhaps a sausage.
Westport was also concernd that people being allowed to take their drinks from bar to bar in the P&L District might have given the downtown area an unfair advantage. It does, for god’s sake.

It’s worth noting that it’s a spelling error, as the two words, Paddy and Patty, are pronounced the same around here. Not that it isn’t still a bad error to make.
That is very much worth noting Ellen - and something I was unaware of. It also possibly explains why some Americans, including travel writers, write about Irish catholics calling Irish protestants, “Prots” when what they actually call them is “Prods”.
