Nominations for Irish Blog Awards
Yesterday Damien opened the nominations for the Irish Blog Awards.
They’ll be open until 5:59pm (KC time) on Friday January 26th. The awards themselves take place on March 3rd.
This is the second Irish Blog Awards, and though I didn’t vote last year I was very pleased that Twenty won the overall Best Blogger. There’s a very healthy satirical and cynical character to a lot of Irish blogs, as there is a lot of social commentary. And I like that.
Twenty’s post that won both Best Blog Post and Funniest Blog Post was also a gem.
There are a total of 21 categories including Best Blog, and if you’re so inclined Irish KC might qualify for a couple of categories.
Having started in March 2006, Irish KC is a newcomer (older dated archives were created after March ‘06 just for filing purposes when still using the limited functionality of Blogger), and concentrating on all things KC-related I think that might make it a Specialist Blog.
And it is supposed to be a humour blog, albeit built around listings, so you might cast a glance over some of the popular posts in the far right to remind yourself if any post tickled your fancy enough to warrant nomination for the Most Humorous Post. But I guess you can work out the categories for yourself.
Do explore the Irish Blog Awards site though - it’s a good resource for listing many newly created Irish blogs, and Irishblogs.info and Planet Journals are also great resources. As of course are the Irish blog rolls of your favourite sites.
I’ll be voting for The Swearing Lady for Best Blogger, and I’ll list other votes nearer the time. Go nominate
You’ll get a vote or two from me, Eolaí, but I’m dithering over which catagories. TSL is a ‘just have to have’ in the list too.
I have made my mind up about the best newcomer: MacKazar. He’s both new to blogging and to Ireland. It is really interesting to read his perspective on Ireland as a Polish national.
You’re a good man Primal. Thanks for that and for the link to MacKazar - I have read it a couple of times earlier but I’ll make a more concerted effort now.
It’s been an interesting year for Irish blogs, with so many hanging up their quills and with the emergence of bigger and more commercial blogs.
